A Review

I've read books that made me laugh and think...and occasionally I came across books that made me wept...and think. Since Anna Loring Smith's 'Spit Against the Wind', this book was the 2nd one to make me cry, and the feeling creeps up to you so slowly that you didn't see it coming. Yes, it's that touching. I'm going to give a summary of the story, so if you're intending to read it, don't read this spoiler.

I started reading the book with question marks in my head. Not really sure what was going on, and for a while, I thought it's some story of some paedophile creeping up to children. (Ha) It's actually something a lot less violent, in fact, it's magical.

Elizabeth is an established interior designer with a pretty messed-up background. She was dumped by her bf because of her love and responsiblity for her family, a missing Mom, a depressed and angry dad, a carefree and couldn't care less younger sister, and her nephew, whom she initially thought would be a burden to her.

It was until she met Ivan, someone so mysterious but who was always there for her at the right time, exactly when she needed him the most. He offered her the most comfort and showed her the true meaning of happiness. Needless to say, they fell in love, but their relationship was doomed right from the beginning...as Ivan...is actually her imaginary friend.

Yes, it may sound ludicrous (a word she loved to use) but the pace she set it, the way she mesmerised you into the story, you hardly would think it's unbelievable.

Which makes me think. I used to have an imaginary friend when I was quite young, but I knew she was imginary. She was kinda like a fairy and if I couldn't sleep at night, I would kinda 'summon' her and she'll bring me to this enchanted land of hers where we'll play games and tell stories and slowly, I'll drift into deep sleep.

How many children nowadays create imaginary friends? With all the Xbox and Playstations, the simpliest kind of fun- imagination- seems lost in the children nowadays. Maybe it's a good thing that technology has brought us so much convenience, but it has also killed our basic needs at times.

Schizoprenia? I saw the same plot in "A Beautiful Mind" I think. I used to have imaginary friends too, especially the one with all the playboy playmates frolicking my imaginery lawn washing my imaginery car. Oh wait. Hmmmmm. Oh yeah, I used to have an imaginery friend who punched me in the arm all the time. Oh hold a tick. I think he was real.

Ok scratch that, I think I spoke to myself a lot, but never had an imaginery friend. -.-;

Muahaha!U freakin' funny!

No, it's not like 'A Beautiful Mind', she's not mad...that's why i say it's kinda like magical....something along the lines of 'Neverending story'...

Go read it if u have the time to spare, it's kinda girly sappy stuff, but I think it's really nice:)

eh spoiler alert:

No lah, she didn't know he's imaginary..it's kinda like sixth sense, a lot of coincidences and misunderstandings that she tot people could see him (or he existed) ...

It's quite sweet lah, and the last I heard, they're having a play based on the book, with HUGH JACKMAN!!! as the lead character!!:)
